born in 1958 in Denmark, is an esteemed Danish composer and multi-percussionist with a career spanning several decades. His approach to improvised music is built on a few core principles: deep listening, full concentration, and a commitment to creating something new in the moment. He emphasizes supporting fellow performers and only playing when he has something meaningful to contribute.

A self-taught instrument builder, Jørgens has been a fixture in the international music scene since his early collaboration with John Tchicai in 1974. He founded the influential groups Cockpit Music (punk-jazz) and Global Guaranty Orchestra, both of which remain active today. He has performed on over 60 albums with a wide array of renowned musicians, including Peter Brötzmann, Evan Parker, and David Thomas.

Since 1992, he has been building his own string and percussion instruments, and in 2016, he launched the ongoing sound-art series Strange Sounds / Strange Visuals. A three-year composing grant recipient from the Danish Arts Council, Jørgens also served as a house composer at the National Theater in Accra, Ghana. He founded the label Ninth World Music in 1983 and continues to be a highly prolific and innovative force in improvised and contemporary music.
